NMB Bank has announced a TZS 150 million sponsorship package for the eighth edition of the CDF Cup 2026, which will be held in Dar es Salaam from July 6 to 17.

Organised by the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), the tournament will bring together military teams competing in 13 sporting disciplines, including football, volleyball, basketball, handball, golf, swimming, darts, beach soccer and boxing.

Speaking during the sponsorship handover ceremony in Dar es Salaam, NMB Bank Head of Personal Banking Aikansia Muro said the bank was proud to strengthen its longstanding partnership with the TPDF through the promotion of sports and solidarity.

“We believe this sponsorship will add momentum to the tournament and enhance competition among the participating teams. NMB Bank is proud to remain a partner in the development of sports within the armed forces,” Muro said.

She noted that the sponsorship would support efforts to promote sports, strengthen competition and foster unity, physical well-being and camaraderie among participants.

Muro also commended Chief of Defence Forces General Jacob John Mkunda and the Tanzania Military Sports Council for continuing to use sports as a platform for promoting unity, cooperation, peace and healthy living within the armed forces.

CDF Cup 2026 Organising Committee Chairperson Brigadier General Saidi Hamis Saidi said the tournament was designed to underscore the importance of sports within the defence and security forces, promote physical and mental fitness, and strengthen relations between the military and the public.

The participating teams will represent the TPDF Headquarters Command, Army Command, Air Force Command, Navy Command, Reserve Force Command and National Service Command.

The tournament will officially kick off on July 6 at the Azam Complex in Chamazi with an exhibition match between TPDF and NMB teams, followed by an opening fixture between the Army Command and Reserve Force Command.

Boxing will also feature prominently in this year’s programme, with three special championship belts up for grabs in the heavyweight, lightweight and featherweight categories.

CDF Cup 2026 is expected to provide a platform for talent development, promote physical and mental fitness, encourage competitive excellence and strengthen cooperation between the armed forces and the wider community.
