THE government has strongly reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national peace and stability, issuing a stern warning that authorities will take firm legal action against anyone attempting to incite unrest or undermine the country’s security.

Addressing a large public rally at the Imbwe Secondary School grounds in Kemombo Ward, Nyamongo, during his official tour of the Mara Region, Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba declared that maintaining public order remains the state's foremost responsibility. The Prime Minister told the gathering that the government would respond decisively to any signs of lawlessness, explaining that authorities will no longer ignore individuals or organized groups publicly mobilizing for activities that threaten national stability.

Dr Nchemba explicitly cautioned Tanzanians against falling victim to misinformation and inflammatory narratives circulated by external actors or through online platforms. He urged local communities to reject digital messaging that encourages violence or civil disobedience, emphasizing that ordinary citizens are always the primary victims whenever a nation's peace is disrupted.

The Prime Minister underscored that preserving national harmony is a critical prerequisite for sustaining economic growth, attracting international investment, and improving the overall welfare of the population. He called upon the public to actively support law enforcement agencies and government efforts to maintain unity across all regions.

Traditional Elders Enforce Day of Customary Isolation

In an extraordinary local announcement during the rally, the customary traditional leaders of Nyamongo revealed plans to conduct a special cultural ceremony on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. To accommodate the rituals, residents throughout the ward will be expected to completely suspend routine public, commercial, and economic activities for a twelve-hour window, lasting from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional elders, Elder Matata Mwita Nyantebo stated that the day would be strictly dedicated to sacred cultural rituals. Elder Nyantebo urged all residents, including local transport operators and businesses, to respect the ancestral customs by remaining at home and refraining from any form of labor or public gathering.

Following the conclusion of his engagements in Tarime District, Prime Minister Nchemba is expected to continue his developmental tour of the Mara Region. His next itinerary includes a visit to Rorya District to inspect the ongoing construction of the strategic Nyathorogo Bridge, followed by public town hall meetings in Shirati and Tarime Town.
