Four people have died and 14 others sustained injuries after a passenger bus overturned in Chem Chem Ward, Tabora Region, on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026.

The bus, registration number T384 DGF, owned by Last Bullet Company, was travelling from Tabora to Geita Region when the accident occurred.

Speaking at the scene, Tabora Regional Police Commander Twaha Lulengelule said those who died included a one-year-old child and three adults, while the 14 injured victims were receiving medical treatment.

He said the information was preliminary and that investigations were underway to establish the exact cause of the accident. The police commander added that the bus driver fled the scene shortly after the crash.

Some eyewitnesses claimed that the bus was travelling at high speed, causing the driver to lose control before it overturned into a ditch. They called on authorities to take strict action against drivers who violate road safety regulations in order to reduce accidents that continue to claim lives.

Meanwhile, Tabora District Commissioner Upendo Wella, who visited the accident scene, expressed condolences to families who lost their loved ones and wished the injured a quick recovery.

She urged drivers to observe road safety laws and regulations to prevent accidents that result in deaths, injuries and damage to property.

The injured victims are continuing to receive treatment at Kitete Regional Referral Hospital in Tabora
