SIMBA SC will continue their pursuit of the Mainland Premier League title when they face Mtibwa Sugar this afternoon in a crucial Matchweek 28 fixture at Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM EAT, with the Msimbazi Street giants looking to maintain pressure on league leaders Young Africans SC (Yanga) as the title race approaches its dramatic conclusion.

With only three matches remaining before the end of the season, every point has become vital in the battle for the championship. Simba enter the match sitting second in the standings with 64 points from 27 matches, two points behind leaders Young Africans, who have collected 66 points from the same number of games.

The encounter comes at a critical moment for Simba, who know that anything less than victory could seriously damage their hopes of reclaiming the league crown.

The visitors arrive in Morogoro in excellent form, having won each of their last five league matches. Their impressive run has kept them firmly in the title hunt and boosted confidence within the squad as the season reaches its final stages.

Simba's recent performances have also underlined their strength away from home, with the club currently boasting one of the best away records in the division.

Adding further confidence is the team's recent 4-0 victory over Coastal Union in the Federation Cup semi-final, a result that secured a place in the final and demonstrated the squad's attacking quality.

Goals from Libasse Gueye, Nickson Kibabage, Rushine De Reuck and Clatous Chama helped Simba cruise into the final, where they will face Azam FC on July 4.

While Simba, under head coach Steve Barker (pictured), are chasing the title, Mtibwa Sugar are fighting a very different battle.

The Morogoro-based side finds itself in the lower reaches of the table and has struggled for consistency throughout the campaign. Defensive problems have been particularly evident, with the team failing to keep a clean sheet in their last several matches.

Their recent form has been mixed, and a heavy 4-0 defeat to Pamba Jiji exposed some of the challenges they continue to face heading into the closing weeks of the season.

Despite their difficulties, Mtibwa will take confidence from the fact that they held Simba to a 1-1 draw when the two teams met earlier this season. On that occasion, Elie Mpanzu gave Simba the lead before Fredirick Magata equalised for Mtibwa.

Simba supporters will also be keeping a close eye on events elsewhere, with league leaders Young Africans facing third-placed Azam FC in another crucial Matchweek 28 fixture.

Any slip-up from Young Africans could open the door for Simba to reduce or even erase the gap at the top of the table.

Following today's encounter, Simba will conclude their league campaign with matches against Singida Black Stars and KMC FC.

However, coach Barker and his players know their immediate focus must remain on Mtibwa Sugar.

With the championship race finely balanced and the season nearing its end, Simba cannot afford any mistakes as they seek three crucial points in Morogoro and keep their title dream alive.
